Fifth international BEST Project workshop was arranged in autumn 2019 in Kaliningrad, Russia. The workshop focused on innovative and cost-efficient methods for pre-treatment of industrial effluents.
The workshop interested experts from several fields the workshop gathered together 83 participants form 8 countries.
The event covered current situation, challenges, new improvements and regulation of industrial waste water treatment in Russia, involvement of BEST project in a new BSR Water platform project and introducing the BEST piloting and investments. The participants had an opportunity to visit local fish canning industry and the waste water treatment plant they are discharging, as an example of well working cooperation and responsibly pre-treated industrial waste waters. The last day of the event was dedicated to Russian round table discussions, tackling the current changes in the structure of the water sector and specially the progress of combing the water utilities. The other issue discussed was the needs, opportunities and prospects to educate specialists in the waste water treatment sector.
