Summary

Watch the interview with Project manager Kuldar Kipper (before the investment was realized):

Põltsamaa Vesi wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) invested in a mobile sampling equipment in order to better monitor the quality and quantity of sewage from industries discharged to the plant. By the help of the sampling results, the treatment plant can better adjust the treatment process to the real composition of the received industrial wastewater.

Põltsamaa Vesi municipal WWTP plant has several industrial clients. Two food industry companies, E-Piim Tootmine Ltd and Orkla Eesti Ltd, are the largest ones and produce ca 60% of the total wastewater load in Põltsamaa. From the food and dairy production, the treatment plant receives wastewater with high biological oxygen demand and nutrient contents. With improved monitoring and communication between the water utility and industries the treatment plant is able to adjust the process based on needs and capacity of both parts.
